St Benedict was the founder of western Monasticism In the sixth Century he was one of many Abbots who wrote a Rule for his monks. St Benedict, however, is thought of as the founder of the black monks of the middle ages. The monks who inhabited this priory until the dissolution were of the ‘Order of St Benedict’
We mark Friday June 11th the feast of St Benedict with a Holy Eucharist at 8am.
In the Autumn we will launch a new monastic community here, who will live in the ‘spirit of the rule of St Benedict’
Fr Mark said, “I am excited by the re-establishment of a monastic community on the site, especially as the community will serve the area as its predecessors did.”
Fr Mark will visit St Benedict’s tomb and his first Monastery at Monte Casino in October, the 50th Anniversary of Benedict being declared Patron of Europe by the Pope.
