8PM PASCHAL VIGIL & DEDICATION OF THE NEW ORGAN.
AS the Tridium’s end is marked by the playing of the Organ, Fr Mark Soady (Vicar) will dedicate our new Viscount Organ.
The Vigil begins in the dark (as the women went to the tomb of Jesus ‘while it was still dark’) but will end in the new light .
It has four parts:
(1) the service of light – the new Easter Candle is blessed and lit from a fire in the darkness outside the front door, and then carried into the unlit church. It is placed in its stand by the font and the ‘Exultet’ (a poetic prayer of thanksgiving for the Resurrection and all it means) is sung over it. The ‘Home Paschal Candles’ that some of you have ordered will be blessed and lit briefly at this point.
(2) the Liturgy of the Word (still in the dark) recounts in sets of ‘reading-psalm-prayer’ the saving events from the Fall to the Resurrection and ends in the ‘Gloria’ (during which the lights go on, and bells, whistles and whatever else you can think of are used in a hopefully wild noise of joy at Christ’s resurrection!!!), followed by Epistle reading and Gospel.
(3) Renewal of Baptismal Vows around the Font
(4) The First Eucharist of Easter
