7.30PM MASS OF THE LAST SUPPER, STRIPING OF THE ALTARS AND WATCH OF THE PASSION
The main service of this day focuses on the Last Supper of Christ. Its atmosphere is one of loving service, celebrating the signs of self-giving, self-forgetting love that Christ left His family: the serving of one-another in the washing of feet, and the bread and wine of the kingdom. The foot-washing follows the sermon, before the service continues with prayers, peace and Communion.
Again, the ‘mood’ of the whole changes towards the end of the service, as we recall the agony of Christ in the garden of Gethsemane – for this, we will go to watch and pray before the Sacrament of Christ’s Body set on the ‘Altar of Repose’ in the LEWIS Chapel. This will be decorated for the occasion as a garden. The watch closes at 11pm with a brief blessing – come and ‘stay awake for one hour’ with Christ in silent prayer and meditation of His love.
